From the Courier Journal:
Rep. Owens to receive 2012 Freedom Award from city
Darryl T. Owens, now in his fourth term as the 43rd District state representative and a former Jefferson County commissioner, is the 2012 recipient of Louisville’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award.
Owens, 74, a Democrat who is chairman of the Jefferson County legislative delegation, was chosen for the award by Mayor Greg Fischer. Fischer spokesman Phil Miller said Fischer made the choice from among nominees suggested by his staff and some community leaders.
The award will be presented to Owens on Sunday during the “Keepers of the Dream” community arts celebration, which is dedicated to King. The event is free and open to the public and will be at 5 p.m. in Whitney Hall at the Kentucky Center at Sixth and Main streets. The celebration will feature musical and theatrical presentations.
