BRIEFLY SPEAKING
Looking for Some Donations for Monte Carlo Night and the Silent Auction at the Olmstead [updated: 9/18/2005]
The recent (September 2005) LBA Bar Briefs posted donors for the Monte Carlo / Silent Auction set for Oct. 27 at 5:30 p.m. at the 'Olmstead.' For more information on the auction, click here.
What is NOT available on the web site is a list of donor's and their gifts. Some of these gifts include the following:
- Autographed UL Football and Basketball PLUS tickets for 2.
- Dinner at the Jefferson Club
- Tickets at the Downs
- Amelia Island Condo - One-week stay (from Phillips Parker Orberson & Moore)
- Rounds of golf at Vahalla and Standard
- Bats tickets
- Gourmet dinner for 12 at YOUR house from Susan and John Phillips
- Woodford Reserve tour and picnic
Some of these are truely unique gifts reflect thought and consideration. The practical side is that good works are being done by good people.
How about some other donations from out there? Here are a few ideas if you feel contributorily-challenged. CAVEAT: Nobody, noone, no person, from the LBA asked me to make this pitch, but it is a soft pitch for you to drill out of the park!
- Golf rounds at Hunting Creek, and others. Here is a link of some.
- Audio tapes or CD's of mysteries. (I Love Audio Books has a ton to rent).
- Taking someone out in your sail boat.
- Scuba diving lessons.
- Other dinner tickets.
- Actor's Theater, Derby Dinner Theater, Broadway Series, and more.
- A private tour of the Brandeis Collection and/or John Marshall Harlan Collection at the Brandeis School of Law.
- Autographed UK Football and Basketball plus tickets.
- Free admission to the Kentucky Law Updates (just kidding those are already free).
- A night or two at the Seelbach, Galt House, Hampton Inn, Marriot or other down down hotel on the weekend plus tickets to a show and/or restaurant. [P.S. I 'won' two of these in a drawing from a Jefferson County Public Law Library auction at the Comedy Caravan, and my wife and I really enjoyed the relaxing time down town as we had someone else clean the room, enjoyed the pool, rode around town in the carriage, ate out, and had an all-round worry-free time.].
- Tickets to French Lick Resort. [Again, my wife and I enjoyed a break from it all horseriding, spa, and an audience-participating Mystery Theater!]
- Autographed Louisville Sluggers and dinner at Brownings at Slugger Field.
- Other winery picnics and tours in Kentucky.
- Andnd don't let us forget our own Mr. Samuels (lawyer too, no less) and a Makers Mark or even a light dinner and a drink with this eclectic fellow.
- Midnight cruise on the Star of Louisville with you and that special someone.
- Imax tickets.
These are just some rambling thoughts on a Wednesday afternoon....evening....night.... Yawnnnnnnnnn.
Think about it. It's a good cause.
Now, don't that make ya wanna Spit the Bit and give a bit until it hurts?
